Margin of Error

A new Collaboration with Terceira Pessoa-Portugal

‘Margin of Error’ is a transdisciplinary project that reflects on the future of the most banal actions of the human being, confronting the elementary biology that is common to the Human with the accelerated and artificial future towards which society is heading. Eating, Fucking, Communicating, Walking, Thinking are some of the activities that direct the project towards the creation of four independent artistic objects. From each of these actions, it proposes the redefinition and resignification of these small actions and the spaces we inhabit. Even though they are simple and immediately recognisable actions, their heuristic power opens up a zone of obscurity within clarity. To a ‘positivist’ use of the body, of its gestures/movements, perfectly integrated into a logic of profitability and efficiency, we seek to critically and artistically insist on the ‘cursed part’ or ‘excess’ of these bodily uses, on their purely unproductive (and therefore intrinsically transgressive) fruition. The project seeks to rethink the possibility of an essentially outdated use of these actions, which rediscovers a reserve of vital reverberation in a set of actions that common practice has rendered unimportant, ancillary, or even excessive, repugnant and culturally prohibitive (cf. The Expulsion of the Other, by Byung-Chul Han). The art of banal actions is explored as a sensory experience that invites openness, strangeness and the successive deferral of everyday life and the most common references.

The density of time is captured and intensified, making it a place of resonance between banal actions and deep artistic reflection on the characteristics of some human actions in the contemporary context. We think in terms of hybridity, contamination and coexistence, in terms in which all anthropogenesis is technogenesis. It is from this axiom that the project emerges, where the gesture of creation based on these verbs is a gesture of liberation from actions and their depth. Thus, 4 objects of an experimental nature and without immediate categorisation are created, each with a specific pretext, with the transversal element of the creation being the attempt to confront a transhumanist tomorrow and the awareness of action as a present reality.
